Braintree Town have appointed Glen Driver as their new manager.
Driver spent the last three seasons as manager of Leiston, with the first two in the Isthmian League Premier Division and then, following a lateral transfer last season, in the Southern League Premier Division. In his first season, Leiston missed out on a play-off place by just two points, but made up for that at the end of 2017/2018 by securing a play-off place for promotion to the National League South, where they lost in the semi-finals by the only goal at Dulwich Hamlet.
Last season he again made a successful start, with Leiston challenging for a play-off place before he decided to step down from his role. Driver will be joined at Braintree by coach Tony Kinsella, who played for Millwall (twice), Tampa Bay Rowdies, Ipswich Town and Doncaster Rovers over a ten-year period before working for the Colchester United school of excellence and Ipswich Town’s academy.
Chairman Lee Harding said: “Once again we have been spoilt with the calibre of applicants. All of those on our shortlist were very able and have had success, but we were impressed with Glen’s footballing philosophy.
“He has an excellent network of contacts in the game at our level and is also keen to work with the club as we build for the future. I am confident that he will play a pivotal role in working with our new youth sides to provide a link for those up-and-coming players to progress into the first-team squad.”
Driver said: “Really looking forward to it and I’m meeting players from tomorrow onwards. We’ve got two weeks of tough pre-season training before we get stuck into the pre-season matches.
“I’m also keen to meet the supporters. I’m not going to make outrageous promises other than we’ll work hard for you all and give you 100 percent.”
