Chelmsford City say the club is not for sale, despite an approach from recent Billericay Town chairman Glenn Tamplin.

A statement from the National League South club’s John Holmes this afternoon reads as follows:

I am writing to you so as not to fuel fake news. I have been approached by Glenn [Tamplin], but to be clear, I am approached at almost every race meeting by would be football club owners. This is apart from dozens of approaches informing me that they could do a better job than we do.

The Club is not for sale. Chelmsford City Football Club is now structured to facilitate new investment that can now come in to a dedicated company. These monies, as you have all seen recently, go directly into the day to day club operation.

I am planning to invest further in the club to support Steve and the team in advancing the ambitions for the club, which includes reviewing the options for creating our own facility that can support the progression of Chelmsford City Football Club.

John Holmes.
