Chertsey Town beat Cray Valley Paper Mills FC 3-1 at Wembley to lift the FA Vase.
It took extra-time to separate the two sides on an afternoon which saw Cray Valley take the lead after 36 minutes. Gavin Tomlin, a Football League player with the likes of Yeovil Town and Southend United, cut in from the wing before finishing inside the near post.
Just a couple of minutes later, the Curfews were level, as Sam Flegg’s header came back off the post, leaving him to finish.the rebound.
Deep into injury time at the end of the 90 minutes, Anthony Edgar struck the bar for Cray. It would surely have been the winner, but on to extra-time it was.
With half-time looming, Chertsey won a penalty after Lubo Guentchev was fouled by Cem Tumkaya. The spot kick was duly dispatched by Jake Baxter.
The Combined Counties Football League Premier Division champions put the result beyond doubt on 117 minutes, when Quincy Rowe finished beautifully into the far corner. It capped a brilliant season for Dave Anderson’s side, and despite the result for Cray, the Southern Counties East League Premier Division champions will not be forgetting their 100th year in a hurry.
