Chester FC could soon be given a considerable boost with the return of midfielder Gary Stopforth.

As Cheshire Live have reported, joint-manager Anthony Johnson shared a photo of the former Stockport County man back on the training pitch at the weekend. The Blues had been due to face Darlington away, before the match was called off.

Experienced midfield man Stopforth had been at the heart as Johnson and Bernard Morley’s side surged into the promotion mix, but the 32-year-old has been out since December. Stopforth is working his way back from a knee operation, having suffered a torn meniscus.

Chester are currently 9th in the National League North, five points and two places off the play-off positions.
