At the end of this week, Gateshead record appearance holder and community officer James Curtis will be leaving the club after 15 years of service, 13 of which were as a player.

The 36-year-old defender will be joining the Newcastle United Foundation in a full-time role.

Curtis has been at Gateshead since 2003 when they were in Northern Premier Division 1 all the way to the Conference Premier play-off final in Wembley. Helping the Heed achieve three promotions during his 596 appearances.

He left his playing role in 2016 but has remained at the club as a community officer while playing part-time for Spennymoor in the National League North.
