Jack Paxman is determined to make the most of his Maidstone reprieve.

Paxman, 24, expected to be released after an up-and-down season but instead was offered a new deal.

It surprised the midfielder, especially as boss Jay Saunders made contact on the same day Reece Prestedge, Joe Anderson and Delano Sam-Yorke were let go.

The pair had a heart-to-heart and Paxman, a big favourite with Stones fans, is excited about the future.

He said: “Jay rang me the same day he spoke to Prez, Ando and Delano and obviously they were all told they weren’t being kept on. I saw my phone ringing and I was thinking ‘here we go’.

“I was fully prepared for it and I’d got myself ready to say ‘OK, fair enough’ but the chat was completely different.”
