The former Tottenham Hotspur and Portsmouth manager was appointed as successor to Gianfranco Zola at St Andrews earlier this week and has set about the task of putting together a coaching team to help move the Blues away from the SkyBet Championship relegation zone.
After naming former Burnley manager Steve Cotterill as his number two, Redknapp moved to appoint Groves to his coaching staff.
That means that the former Grimsby Town player will help the Blues prepare for their derby clash at Aston Villa on Saturday, rather than working with Mickleover Sports manager John McGrath as they end their season with a home game against Frickley Athletic.
Following their 2-0 home defeat against Burton Albion on Easter Monday, the Blues currently sit just three points above the Championship relegation zone.
After their derby with Aston Villa, they face a home game against promotion-chasing Huddersfield Town, before ending their season with a trip to Bristol City.
