Tranmere Rovers have taken the decision to close the club’s academy.
Rovers are currently well in the race to return to the EFL, sitting 3rd in the Vanarama National League, but the Prenton Park club will no longer be having teams for players under 16. In a lengthy statement from the club, it was stated that:
‘The club has been forced to rethink the way it develops young players as a consequence of the impact of the Elite Player Performance Plan (EPPP) system. This means that we will only be providing free coaching and a games programme for players aged 16 and above. For younger players, we will take a completely new approach to assisting with their development within their existing clubs.’
