Quality finisher Jason Walker can inspire the rest of the team, says Workington Reds boss Dave Hewson.

Walker showed just what he is capable of in Tuesday night’s friendly with Keswick, where he picked up a hat-trick – and could have added more.

And Hewson believes the newly-signed centre-forward will provide something that the team has been missing for a while.

“His quality of finish stands out a mile,” said Hewson, who watched Walker thunder home a penalty, volley into the top corner and poach one in a goalmouth scramble against Keswick.

“The goal where he brought the ball down on his chest and volleyed into the top corner was just top class. That’s what we brought him in for, to bring that added quality but it’s not just that.

“You can also look at the other side of his game, his link-up play, his hold-up play, it’s something we maybe haven’t had in a while in terms of a striker who is able to do that.”
