Basford United achieved the double of 100 points and 100 goals with a 3-2 victory at Cleethorpes.

They raced into a 3-0 half time lead with a ruthless display of finishing but then had to withstand a spirited fightback by the home side.

Liam Hearn opened the scoring on 19 minutes, reacting quickly to score after his first shot was blocked and in the 36th minute he took Basford to the century mark in goals when turning in Grantham’s low cross.

Deon Meikle met Matt Thornhill’s corner to score with a powerful header on the stroke of half time.

Marc Cooper reduced the arrears with a shot off the crossbar on 61 minutes and ten minutes later substitute Jonathan Oglesby scored Cleethorpe’s second to ensure a nervy end to the game.
