Gateshead have signed former Carlisle United striker Steven Rigg on a one year deal.
Rigg spent last season playing across the Atlantic in America for Erie Commodores FC and signs following a successful trial spell in which he appeared three times for the Tynesiders in pre-season.
The 26-year-old Cumbrian will wear the number 10 shirt for the Heed this season and is pleased to sign:
“It’s great to finally sign after being here on trial the lads have been great whilst I’ve been here,” he said. “It’s been a good pre-season, training has been good and I’m really pleased to get signed.”
Having scored goals for fun at Penrith, Carlisle United were quick to sign the Bonny Blues frontman. Rigg enjoyed two seasons in League Two before moving North of the border to join Queen of the South.
Having impressed for the Heed on trial against Guiseley, Livingston and Blyth Spartans, Rigg’s workhorse-like performances haven’t gone unnoticed by fans.
“Having a good work rate is something I think should be the bare minimum, it creates chances and hopefully I can put them away,” he added.
“I think a lot of people are writing us off but the work rate we’ve got will stand us in good stead for the rest of the season, so hopefully we can surprise a few and kick on at the right end of the table.”
