Jake Robinson admits he has surprised even himself by bagging 50 goals for Billericay Town this season – but insists he is not finished yet.
The man who was signed from Hemel Hempstead Town for £24,000 in March 2017 has enjoyed a remarkable time in the blue of Billericay. His stats rival those of footballing greats Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. In 56 starts Robinson has scored 57 goals, bringing up his half century against Leatherhead on Saturday.
This season Robinson has netted 28 league goals and 22 in cup competitions, while he, Billy Bricknell and Adam Cunnington have scored more than 100 between them. But Robinson says while he is delighted to reach the landmark, if Billericay do not scoop the league title this month his goals will mean very little.
“It has been on the cards for a while but I wasn’t thinking about getting to 50,” said the former Brighton & Hove Albion striker. I was happy to keep scoring over a long period but people mentioned I was getting close.
“I was ticking off the landmarks which were 30 goals in total and 20 in the league. The most I had got before this season was 34 and I beat that really early.”
