AFC Fylde won the FA Trophy at Wembley with a 1-0 win over promoted Leyton Orient.

In a goalless first half, Fylde lost their captain Neill Byrne after a collision with Josh Coulson just a few minutes in. Byrne had initially returned to the action but was replaced by Tom Brewitt.

Fylde broke the deadlock on the hour, as Danny Rowe curled home a free-kick. It was another superb individual moment for someone who was again named National League Player of the Year this season.

Orient went desperately close ten minutes later, with Joe Widdowson striking the post and the rebound almost creeping in. Ultimately, though, the Coasters were to hold on, giving Dave Challinor’s side something to celebrate at the end of a season in which they were denied promotion to the EFL in the play-off final.

Despite defeat today, on a Non-League Finals Day that attracted 42,962 spectators, Orient can look forward to next season back in League Two.
