Manager Gary Waddock admitted it had “been coming” after Aldershot Town were hammered 7-1 by AFC Fylde on Saturday.
And the Shots boss admitted he made a mistake when choosing the Aldershot team for the game, labelling the performance “nothing short of an absolute shambles”.
“First of all, this is a difficult interview,” Waddock told Aldershot Town’s media manager Steve Gibbs directly after the game. “I would like to thank our supporters first and foremost, and I would like to apologise to them for the performance and the result.
“The bottom line is that I got the team selection wrong and so I need to take a long, hard look at that in the week leading up to our next game and make sure the team selection is correct. I picked the wrong team.
“When you concede a goal after one minute 20 seconds, and it’s not the first time it’s happened either, you give yourself a massive task ahead of you. Obviously they are a very good side and I’m not taking anything away from them because they were outstanding, but you give them some momentum as well.
“We find a way back into the game but the goals we have conceded after that have been nothing short of an absolute shambles.”
