Alfreton Town have completed the signing of Craig Disley on a two year deal.
Craig predominantly plays in midfield but can also shift to the wing if required. He becomes the Reds and new Boss John McDermott’s first summer signing.
Mainly a box-to-box central midfielder, Disley began his professional career at Mansfield Town where he made 141 appearances scoring 16 goals. In 1999 he started as a youngster, and established himself in the Stags first team in the 2001–02 season; helping them gain promotion into the Second Division.
Disley then decided to join Bristol Rovers in July 2004, making 203 appearances scoring 25 and helped win promotion out of League Two in 2006–07. Craig then joined Shrewsbury Town in May 2009, but injury problems meant he didn’t hold a regular place in the team.
He joined Grimsby Town in June 2011, and became an essential tool in their midfield over the next five years. Craig made 234 appearances, and scored 34 goals helping Grimsby to win promotion out of the National League in 2015–16. Disley was then released at the end of the 16-17 season.
Reds Boss John McDermott spoke to Press Officer about the acquisition of Disley:
“It was a fantastic signing for us and we fought off stiff competition from higher clubs to land his signature. We are absolutely delighted and we all can’t wait to get going and start preparations.”
“Craig was fully on board when we spoke about the project here at the Reds and he carries himself well on and off the pitch, he’s a great player to have around and the perfect signing for us. It shows a signal of intent and lots of clubs are moving quickly, signing several players and we are doing our business too, more signings are on the way as we shape the squad and shape the squad to challenge in the league. It’s a good start for us and Craig is the first of many great and quality signings we have on the way.”
