Altrincham FC captain, Shaun Densmore has written an open-letter, which will be sent to all existing season-ticket holders, but which also applies to all those who might not have had a ticket in the past but might wish to acquire one for 2017-18.

“Dear Supporters

Firstly, I would like to apologise to you, as a season-ticket holder, on behalf of myself and all the players for what has been a bitterly disappointing last 12 – 18 months for the football club. Having been at the club for approaching nine years now, and counting myself as a fan as well as a player, I fully understand the sense of anger and disappointment at our performances over the last couple of seasons. Throughout it all, our supporters have continued to turn out in numbers, following us both home and away, so I want to take this opportunity to thank you, and every other Alty fan, for a remarkable level of loyalty that is hugely appreciated by every one of us.

Believe me, that sort of backing can help us massively next season when, it goes without saying, our number one aim will be an immediate return to the Conference North, followed by a return to the Conference National. We need to enter the campaign with the mindset that we are the “top dog” in the league. This isn’t arrogance, merely a realistic appraisal of the division we find ourselves in and the club we are playing for.

Given Altrincham’s history and tradition, we will be seen as a major scalp for the majority of teams we face. We need to be ready for this and mentally tuned in to handling the responsibility and tackling the challenge head-on.

After a difficult 18 months for me personally, I am keen to be part of the rebuilding process of the club, in terms of getting back to where we belong. The process starts now, and with a hard-working summer break and fully-focused pre-season under our belts, we will be looking to hit the ground running at the start of the new season.

Hopefully this is the beginning of a new era for the club, one which will bring a change of fortunes for everyone associated with it and put a smile back on fans’ faces. It’s going to require a team effort in every sense of the word, which is why I’m writing to you now, in the hope you will stick with us and keep offering the sort of support I’m confident will help make 2017-18 a season to remember for all the right reasons.

Best wishes, Shaun”.
