Liam Goulding is to continue his quest to build up his fitness and sharpness levels by joining Ashton United on loan.
Altrincham’s 22-year old summer signing from Warrington Town has been on loan at Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Witton Albion, where has has been utilised to good effect in central midfield and as part of a three-man defence in recent weeks. With his temporary stay at Wincham Park coming to an end, and the benefit of getting minutes under his belt becoming increasingly apparent, it was felt a further spell of first-team action on loan would be in the best interests of all concerned.
Goulding will bolster Ashton’s bid to steer clear of trouble in the Vanarama National League North until the New Year, initially, and his form will be monitored by Alty bosses, who retain the option to recall him, if need be. A stylish, composed centre-back, who played a key role in Warrington’s run to the NPL play-offs last season, Goulding made an instant impact in Alty’s pre-season programme and began the campaign in manager Phil Parkinson’s starting line-up.
His early performances justified his inclusion, but such was the form of Tom Hannigan and James Jones, once they formed a partnership that has gone from strength to strength over the past couple of months, he found himself confined to the bench.
