It was a Boxing Day to remember for Macclesfield Town as the team kept their fantastic Vanarama National League campaign going with a 2-1 win over FC Halifax Town.

Danny Whitehead and Tyrone Marsh got the goals for John Askey’s side as the Silkmen stayed stuck to the top of the division. It’s been a busy Christmas period for Macclesfield, but manager John Askey has said that the team just need to keep winning and striving for the best results.

After the Halifax victory, John Askey spoke to www.mtfc.co.uk with his thoughts.

“You’ve just got to keep winning and its better to be there than the bottom. That win puts us on 48 points so with another two points then we’ll be safe,” Askey joked.

“That’ll be the first mission accomplished if we can do that but obviously we’re striving to stay at the top, keep everyone fit and keep going.”
