Evo-Stik Northern Premier League club Workington have confirmed that club legend Gareth Arnison will not be considered part of their first team plans for the “foreseeable future”.
Arnison has scored 127 goals in his 265 appearances for the Cumbrian club, but has been unable to train for most of their pre-season schedule due to “health issues”.
And now the Reds managament team have given some clarity to the situation surrounding the striker.
In a statement on the club website they confirmed their decision.
The statement in full read “The Club has gone on record to thank Gareth Arnison for his outstanding service spanning nine seasons at Borough Park during which time he established himself as Reds’ record scorer during the modern era.
It follows the management’s announcement that Arni would not feature in their first team plans for the foreseeable future.
The management have been monitoring the situation for some time and it certainly isn’t a matter they have taken lightly.
It was a difficult, delicate decision to make but necessary in view of the uncertainty regarding Gareth’s health issues.
Through no fault of his own, the player has been unable to train for much of pre-season, hasn’t featured in any of the pre-season games and can give no guarantees when his fitness will attain a level to enable him to resume playing.
A fit Gareth Arnison would command a place in any team in this league but the lack of clarity on the situation is frustrating to all concerned but, above all, a worry to the player and his family.
In three separate spells at the club, Gareth has scored 127 goals in 265 (plus 81 as substitute) appearances”
