Ashford United manager Gary Alexander has been sacked by the club, along with assistant manager John Mackie and Huseyin Torgut.

Ex-Millwall, Brentford and Leyton Orient striker Alexander had seen his team win 4-1 against Herne Bay on Saturday, but later tweeted:

‘Sacked at 1020 whilst lying in bed over a text. Good luck @AshfordUnitedFC and @AUFC Fans It’s been pleasure.’

Commenting on the departures, chairman Derek Pestridge and the board of directors said in a statement: “This decision has been made in the best interests of the club. We would like to thank Gary, John and Hus for their efforts this season.

“The club now invites any interested applicants to get in touch. We will be making no further comment until we reach a decision on Gary’s replacement.”

Ashford United are currently 7th in the Bostik League South East Division.
