Steve Halford and Paul Phillips, the new joint-managers of Vanarama National League North club Stalybridge Celtic, have returned to former club Ashton United for their first signings.

Former skipper Jay Gorton and Danny Wilkins have switched from the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Premier Division side to Bower Fold.

Gorton joined Ashton and was immediately made captain in 2013 from fellow Tamesiders Mossley AFC.

At Mossley, Gorton won the supporters` player of the year and was also skipper after joining in 2012 from Glossop North End, where he had played for seven years, getting to the FA Vase Final at Wembley in in 2009.

Wilkins is a young striker who has been scoring goals at every club he’s played for and has also scored against Celtic when he played in the FA Cup for Kendal Town last season – a game Celtic won 3-2.

Prior to Ashton, Wilkins played for Ramsbottom United, joining in 2015 from Kendal.

He started his career playing for Bamber Bridge, moving to Clitheroe in 2014.
