John Askey admits there wasn’t much more Macclesfield Town could have done last night, as the Silkmen narrowly lost to Barrow at the Moss Rose.
The visitors, who had been reduced to ten men on the hour mark, scored the only goal of the game from the penalty spot following an alleged handball.
Speaking after the game, Askey believes that his side deserved to get something out of the game as they controlled most of the match.
“We dominated the game more or less from start to finish, and created a lot of chances. The only thing I can criticise the players for is not putting the ball in the back of the net, but apart from that you can’t ask for any more.
“We’re struggling to hit the back of the net, and all we can do is keep working, keep creating the chances and eventually they’ll go in”.
Despite the result, Askey was satisfied with the overall performance of his squad and the chances created, and is confident of reaping the rewards if the team continue in a similar fashion.
“Chris had another good chance again, Andy Haworth’s had three very good chances, Connor has been unlucky with the header, and I’m sure there’s other chances but you just come away really frustrated after games like that, and I bet they can’t believe it. We’ve got to pick ourselves up, and if we keep on playing like that then we’ve still got a chance”.
The Silkmen’s next match is at the Moss Rose again, playing host to Braintree Town.
