Macclesfield Town manager John Askey says he is delighted with the way the opening half of the season has gone but remains hopeful his side can continue to build momentum in the coming weeks.
Having entered the summer with just four players remaining at the club from last season, many pundits tipped the club to struggle this time around.
However, Saturday’s 2-1 victory at Hartlepool ensured that The Silkmen remain just one point off the top of the National League table, with the second half of the campaign getting underway this weekend against Wrexham.
A five-minute turnaround, including Keith Lowe’s first in Macclesfield colours, showed the level of character Askey has at his disposal.
The manager admitted to Silkmen TV that he is delighted with the way things are going.
“To think where we are, it’s an incredible achievement really.
“I know the level of players we’ve got in the dressing room and they can all compete at this level, but it has been a terrific effort by everyone involved.
“It’s all about keeping it going now. Hopefully, we can have that little bit of luck and we don’t pick up injuries and suspensions along the way. “
Having seen his summer recruitment pay off, Askey is hopeful that everyone connected with the football club is enjoying the current situation.
“It’s a far cry from where we were earlier in the summer, miles away in fact.”
