Macclesfield Town boss John Askey, who led the Silkmen back to the EFL after six years away this season, will become an honorary freeman of Macclesfield in a title bestowed by Macclesfield Town Council.

The honour is a reward for 30 years of service to the football club for the former midfielder.

Congratulating Askey on the honour, Club Chairman Mark Blower said: “Everybody at the Football Club is so pleased that John has received this accolade.

“He did an incredible job in leading the Football Club back to the EFL last season, but moreover has been a terrific servant to the Football Club, and the town for the last three decades. We are all delighted for him.”
