John Askey was happy with the performance of his side on Saturday as his Macclesfield Town side swept aside Leek Town in their second pre-season fixture.
Goals from Danny Whitaker, Ollie Norburn and Jack Sampson helped to secure the 3-1 win for the Silkmen and the manager was pleased with the overall performance from everyone involved in the game.
“I’m happy with the run out, I think the conditions suited us well, we passed the ball around well and it was a good workout for the players.
“It was very much a step up from the Buxton game. We were a bit disjointed up at Buxton but from this game I couldn’t really ask for any more than we did”.
The Silkmen’s next pre-season fixture will see Wigan Athletic make the trip to Moss Rose, a game which will Askey says will be completely different to the win over Leek.
“It’s a step up again against Wigan” said Askey. “Unlike where we made Leek chase I imagine Wigan will be trying to make us run after the ball, but they’re different games, different quality.
“They’re games that you can learn from, with today it was about us trying to keep hold of the ball, maintain possession and being positive whereas on Wednesday it’ll probably be about our organisation, and how we can get the ball back when we’re not always in possession”.
