John Askey has admitted that it’s sad to see Paul Lewis depart from Macclesfield Town but admits it is good for the Football Club.

Lewis came through the youth team at the club and left to join League Two side Cambridge United with his last game being a memorable one as he bagged a hat-trick at the Moss Rose against Tranmere Rovers.

He has become the second player to leave the club for a side in the EFL after Jack Mackreth joined Bury of League One.

Speaking to Silkmen Player HD, John said; “It’s good for the Football Club because it’s another player who has come through the youth team, we’ve got money for Paul but it’s sad to see him go.

“I’d obviously have preferred to keep him and he’ll be a miss but I’m looking to bring players in which hopefully wouldn’t cost too much money. “
