Macclesfield Town boss John Askey says he will wait to see what players become available before adding new faces to his squad.

The Silkmen boss has spent the last few weeks building his squad for the 2016/17 campaign. A major priority for Askey at the end of last term was to keep his successful side from last season together and with the majority of his squad signed up on new contracts, the Silkmen will now turn their attentions to some new arrivals.

But Askey says this could prove to be a waiting game as players keep their options open over the coming weeks.

He explained to mtfc.co.uk: “We won’t be jumping in to sign players too quickly because we believe we can get better quality players by waiting a little while. In the past we have done quite well with that.

“I’m sure there are players out there who are hoping that they will get contracts with other clubs and they miss out, so they then become available.

“It’s just about waiting to see who becomes available and hopefully they will be successful for us.”
