Following the interview process for the vacant managerial post at Athersley Recreation, the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division side have unveiled Luke Potter as their new first team boss.

The club’s directors made the appointment on Sunday afternoon, saying in a statement: “Luke comes with a good footballing background and has been assistant manager at Ossett Albion for four years and wants to take the next step up to manager.

“He is currently working at Barnsley FC Academy with the under 13s and has assured the board that this will in no way interfere with his appointment at Athersley.

“We have had a good response from interested parties for the job with some quality managers/coaches applying.

“We would like to thank all the unsuccessful applicants for their interest in the post and wish them well for the future.

“We hope that all the members of our club give a warm Rec welcome to Luke and help him settle in to his new role as quickly as possible.”

Potter’s first game in charge will be their home league clash with Bridlington Town on Saturday (6th).
