Atherstone Town manager Scott Rickards has resigned, along with assistant Mike Fowler and secretary Dave Turner.

It follows racist abuse from fans, with Stafford Town goalkeeper Samuel Amedu subjected to it in the weekend’s fixture in the Midland League Division One. Atherstone say those responsible will be given lifetime bans.

Previous opponents Worcester City made two complaints to the fourth official regarding racial comments directed towards staff during the clubs’ FA Vase game on 8th February, but Atherstone were unable to find sufficient evidence.

Rickards has led Atherstone into the last eight of this season’s FA Vase, but he told BBC Coventry & Warwickshire: “I’ve got black players who play for my team – where do I stand morally and ethically if I say let’s just deal with that person and move on?”
