Chairman Shahid Azeem has promised that Aldershot Town will fight to keep sought-after duo Gary Waddock and James Rowe at the club.

The Shots made public earlier this month that they had rejected an approach from a Football League club, rumoured to be Barnet, for Waddock and Rowe. It’s not the first time the management duo had be subject to attention with an unnamed Football League club having been reported to have made a move for Waddock and Rowe in February 2017 .

Aldershot chairman Azeem rejected the approach earlier this month, a move Waddock told the club’s official website that he supported. And Azeem is keen to keep hold of the ‘ginger Mourinho’ for as long as possible, adding that Waddock and Rowe are ‘paramount to what we are trying to do at the football club’.

“I do believe I have a good relationship with Gary and James and any approaches that have come to the club about them I always tell them,” Azeem said. “I try to be open and deal with it.”

“We don’t want to lose them because they are paramount to what we are trying to do at the football club. They have, and Gary has said several times, unfinished business with the club.

“They are building something and we are trying to help them with the foundations.”
