Gareth Bainbridge became North Shields’ record goalscorer last night, with his late penalty against Ryhope CW his 164th goal for the club.
It earned a point for the home side in the 85th minute of their Ebac Northern League Division 1 game, moving 68th-minute substitute Bainbridge beyond Don Winskill to become the Robins’ leading post-war scorer.
Bainbridge, who scored the equaliser at Wembley as Shields beat Glossop North End in the 2015 FA Vase final, tweeted:
164 not out. Can’t tell you what this means to me. To break @NorthShieldsFC goal scoring record, what a feeling. I love this club to the bones. I’ve been treat like a king from the day I walked in and hoping this has repaid that support just a little bit. Thanks for the messages
