Midfielder Jimmy Ball has signed a new two-year extension to his contract, keeping him with Stockport County until May 2019.
The 21-year-old has scored 7 goals in thirty appearances this season, making him County’s second highest goal scorer after Danny Lloyd.
Ball joined the Hatters from league rivals Stalybridge Celtic last September, having scored against Jim Gannon’s side in the league encounter at Bower Fold in August.
But Gannon already knew him well, having worked with the young midfielder at Northwich Victoria last season.
Ball has featured in every fixture during County’s impressive recent run of just one league defeat in fourteen games since the end of November.
Gannon said: “I feel it’s a very positive step for the club as we consolidate the team and continue apace with the team building for the coming seasons. Jimmy has played mainly as an attacking midfielder and, despite not being here for the full season, has the second highest contribution to our goals with his range of finishing and excellent assists from open play and set plays.
“This season Jimmy has been a very good addition and developed well over the last six months. Given his age, football ability and athletic profile I believe that there is still tremendous growth within him and I believe we are the right club for the realisation of his full potential. There is a lot of work to be done over the next six, twelve and eighteen months but I believe Jimmy has all the attributes to become a league player in the future if he continues to work hard at his game”.
