Saltash United have announced that Dave Barker has been appointed club captain.

‘Barks’ has been a key part of the squad and recent successes. Since becoming an Ashes player, he has lifted the Cornwall Senior Cup and the Walter C Parson South West Peninsula League Cup, and helped the Ashes gain consecutive top-six league finishesl including as runners-up 2016/17.

He has now been at the club for four seasons. Barker scored the only goal in the final of the WCP League Cup in the dying minutes against Falmouth Town, in which the club were crowned champions.

Ashes manager Dane Bunney said: “His game has developed in such a way over the past two seasons that his influence on others around him makes him an obvious choice. Plus, he’s a popular member of the squad and it’s his hometown team.

“He will be a great captain for Saltash United.”
