Barnet have confirmed they will be without nine of the first-team squad, as well as manager Peter Beadle, for this weekend’s FA Cup game with Leiston.
It comes as a further six individuals from the playing squad and staff returned positive COVID-19 tests. The National League club’s match with Hartlepool United last Saturday was postponed the evening before following a positive test in the squad.
Yesterday, an update confirmed four players had been affected. Today’s statement explains: “Close-contact tracing has also resulted in an additional player being required to self-isolate for the full 14-day period, in spite of testing negative. Overall, ten playing members of our first team have been affected over the last two weeks.
“With one of these players ending his isolation period ahead of Saturday, there will be nine out of action for our FA Cup tie against Leiston. Manager Peter Beadle has also returned a positive test and will not be able to lead the team for the mandated self-isolation period; Beadle is currently asymptomatic and doing well.”
Despite this, Barnet say they remain confident of fielding a team for the weekend’s game, ‘subject to any change in the current situation.’
