EBAC Northern League champions Shildon have named former Hartlepool United and Middlesbrough defender Micky Barron as their new assistant manager.

Barron will work alongside new Railwaymen boss Daniel Moore, who stepped up from his role as captain to take charge of the Dean Street club last week.barron michael shildon

Barron began his playing career at Middlesbrough, although only made three first team appearances in his four years at the club.

He moved on loan to Hartlepool United, before signing a permenant deal with Pools in 1997.

He would go on to become a Victoria Park legend, making 321 appearances in eleven years with the club.

During that time he led the club to two promotions and was part of the side that narrowly missed out on promotion to English football’s second tier, with their agonizing 4-2 League One play-off final defeat against Sheffield Wednesday in 2005.

During his final season as a player with Hartlepool, Barron took on extra responsibility as the club’s youth team coach, before moving into a role as their assistant manager under Mick Wadsworth.

Barron had two spells as Pools caretaker manager.

In 2011 he took temporary charge of the club following the sacking of Mick Wadsworth, before stepping up again when Wadsworth’s successor Neale Cooper left the club in October 2012.

Shildon currently sit in third place in the EBAC Northern League table, fifteen points behind leaders North Shields.
