Barrow have completed their first permanent addition of the transfer window by signing Biggleswade Town striker Inih Effiong.

Effiong, 25, has joined the Bluebirds on a deal until the end of the season, with an option of an extra year.barrow-shield

The two clubs have negotiated a sell-on clause and they will meet in a pre-season friendly this summer.

Effiong has twenty two goals for the Waders this season and that form has brought him to the attention of Football League clubs.

Speaking to the North West Evening Mail, Bluebirds manager Paul Cox admitted he had to beat plenty of competition to secure Effiong’s signature.

He said ““We were in quite a long line of clubs who wanted to sign him – some of them Football League clubs, some of them at our level.

“Although he’s 25, I see him like Richie Bennett and Jordan Williams, in that if he comes in and grabs an understanding of what we want from him, he could be a major asset at this level of football.

“You like at people like (Jamie) Vardy and people like that, and everyone has a different trigger in their lives for them to hit their level. Inih is no different.

“We’ve kept an eye on him for a while now, and I think the list of clubs who were after him show what an effective player he could be in that position.

“This isn’t a jump into the dark with him. We’ve done our due diligence, we’ve watched him personally, and we know how effective he could be in our unit.”

Effiong will go straight into the Barrow squad for Saturday’s National League fixture against Forest Green Rovers and could get his first taste of life with the Bluebirds.

Top scorer Byron Williams is battling against a knock he took in Tuesday night’s impressive 3-0 win over league leaders Lincoln City.
