Defender Sam Hird feels the red card to Scott Quigley in last Saturday’s 2-0 home defeat against Notts County affected Barrow AFC more than it possibly should have done.

The Bluebirds were defeated on their own patch for the first time in over six months, having been the only team to look like scoring in the first hour of the game, prior to Quigley being shown a straight red for a foul on Notts ‘keeper Joe McDonnell.

Things quickly went downhill for AFC from there, with the Magpies opening up a two-goal lead within 11 minutes of the hosts being reduced to ten men to effectively kill the game, as the defence struggled to cope.

Hird said: “I think we were in control of the game for the whole of the first half – I don’t think we played brilliantly in the first half, but I thought we were good value for at least going in one or two goals up.”
