Barrow AFC made their ninth signing ahead of the new season with the capture of 23-year-old attacking midfielder Liam Hughes from Scottish Premier League outfit Inverness Caledonian Thistle.
Hughes, 6’4? in stature, twice thwarted Barrow boss Paul Cox’s attempts to sign him in January, first on loan and then a week later on a permanent deal when he secured his release from Cambridge United where had spent six years, including winning promotion back to the Football League.
Inverness offered him a trial then and he opted for the move to Scotland.
However, with a change of manager, Hughes rejected the option to stay `north of the border`and Cox’s persistence and patience finally brought reward.
Hughes is seen as “excellent at this level” by the Barrow boss who is now taking a well-earned holiday.
In his absence and with number two Gary Simpson also away, chief scout Paul Ogden is now continuing negotiations with previously identified targets.
