Barrow AFC’s form may have taken a turn for the worse in recent weeks, but one player who can be considered exempt from criticism is young striker Tyler Smith, say The Mail.

The 19-year-old, who is on loan from Sheffield United, gave an impressive performance in defeat at Harrogate Town, who he caused problems throughout the night with his pace and intelligent running.

His display was eventually rewarded with a goal, which made him AFC’s outright top scorer this season, with his flicked header from John Rooney’s free kick his eighth of the season.

Unfortunately for Smith, this proved to be a consolation which added a modicum of respectability to a scoreline that was threatening to turn very ugly in North Yorkshire.

Barrow manager Ian Evatt said: “Tyler’s great, I think the world of Tyler and as a young pro and a young footballer, his standards are exceptional and the boy’s going to have a fantastic career in the game.”
