Basford United secured the Evo Stik Northern Premier League Division One South title with a resounding win.

Kieran Fenton headed in Matt Thornhill’s corner after 18 minutes and five minutes later Liam Hearn doubled the lead, scoring from close range. Fenton scored the third on the stroke of half time, blasting in a free kick from 25 yards.

Fernando Bell-Toxtle fired in the fourth after 55 minutes and Rob Duffy was in the right place to turn in the fifth with fifteen minutes to go. Five minutes from time the home side were awarded a penalty but Colin Lewis dived to his left to keep out Matt Cohen’s kick.

Saturday will be a day of celebration when Basford play their final home game of the season with play-off contenders Lincoln United visiting Greenwich Avenue (3.00).

The players will be presented with the league trophy and medals.
