Basildon United have named John Sussex as their new manager.
It comes a few days after the departure of Neil Blackburn. After starting the season under Marc Harrison, the Bees had Lee Connor (who is vice-chairman) and Michael Walther in joint-charge, before Blackburn took over in December.
Sussex, who joins the club from Witham Town, brings in Danny Kerrigan as assistant manager. The team are 14th in the Bostik North Division, and Sussex had the following to say after his appointment:
“Firstly, I would like to thank (vice-chairman) Lee (Connor) and (chairman) Dave (Maxwell) for this opportunity. I also want to thank Mark (Ashford) at Witham Town for allowing me to leave and the reins here.
“My initial aim will always be to bring some stability back to the club. I know this league well and will be looking to work with the current squad and maybe look at a couple of experienced Isthmian League players to help get us over the line.
“We have a tough run-in but won’t be looking at rash short-term solutions. If we can pick up a few points to secure our place in the league, then we can regroup in the season break and plan for next season.”
