Basingstoke Town have announced the signing of former Hartley Wintney frontman Sam Argent, subject to approval from the Southern League. The forward has agreed a return to the Camrose on a deal until the end of next season.

A key man in Hartley’s rise to the Southern League Division 1 East, he broke through the 50 goal barrier in each of the last two seasons as the Row were promoted. After top scoring in every season at the Memorial Playing Fields, he carried on in the same vein this season at a higher level with 8 league goals already, as well as the winning penalty to knock his new side out of the FA Cup.

Argent joins a strikeforce that has already established itself as one of the most potent in the Southern League Premier Division alongside Sam Smart, Ben Wright and recent signing Callum Bunting and, subject to paperwork being approved, will be available to make his debut in Saturday’s meeting with Banbury United.
