One of the most prolific goalscorers in NWCFL history has had a tough couple of months but is hoping to bounce back in style on Saturday.

Mark Battersby, who has scored an incredible 120 goals in 123 goals for Atherton Collieries, has had a couple of niggles recently but is now feeling fit ahead of the final run in.

Battersby will feature in tonight’s friendly at Litherland REMYCA as he continues to regain match sharpness ahead of Saturday’s match at Maine Road.

The striker explained, “I’m really looking forward to getting some minutes under my belt tonight. It has been a frustrating couple of months, missing out through small niggling injuries. I’ve worked hard in training to get back and now I hope I can play a huge role in the remaining games.”

“This is arguably the most important period in the club’s history so I hope I can play a huge part in that,” he said.

First team manager, Michael Clegg echoed these thoughts, stating, “It’s great to have Batts back in shape for the final games of the season. It’s fair to say that when he is on form, nobody can stop him.”

“Hopefully he can show the form he has done on so many occasions while he’s been here and help us as we continue to fight for that league title.”
