James Baxendale believes nobody would have ultimately stood in Worksop Town’s way this season.

The Tigers were 6th in the Northern Premier League South East Division table after seven of their league fixtures, with games in hand on four of the sides above them.

Former Walsall midfielder Baxendale last week agreed to become a player-coach at the club.

Speaking as part of an extended interview with this site, the 28-year-old said:

“I’m confident enough to say that if our league carried on, we’d have won it. We were in the (Northern Premier League) West part last year with Ponte, and coming over this year, I didn’t really think too much of a couple of teams who were fancied, and I think we were too strong for most teams.

“We’d probably got our proper squad together by the last two games and we were really clicking, and I think we’d have gone on and been too strong for most in that league.”
