Tamworth legend James Belshaw took to social media to confirm his departure from the club, following the expiry of his existing contract over the weekend.

Belshaw’s statement reads “Very disappointing way to end my time at Tamworth FC. That being said, I want to thank everyone involved with the club for the amazing support over the last 3 seasons. It has been an incredible 3 years, and it has been an honour to play for, and captain the club.”

Belshaw indicated that he intended to move to a club offering full time football for the 2017/18 season. Andy Morrell confirmed that an offer had been made to attempt to retain the services of the long-serving goalkeeper.

“We offered him a deal for next season, however he has chosen to take up an offer of full time football elsewhere, which is something that we cannot stand in the way of” Morrell said. “He has been exemplary in all aspects both on and off the pitch, and I personally would like to wish him all the best for the future on behalf of everyone at the club.”
