Sunderland manager Sam Allardyce will be attending tonight’s friendly as his U21 side take on Vanarama National League North club Darlington at the Northern Echo Arena.

Allardyce has been away on a training camp with the Sunderland first team squad in AllardyceAustria, and returned at the weekend.

However, there is also strong speculation that he is going to be the next England manager with Allardyce and Hull City boss Steve Bruce believed to be two of the names under consideration to be Roy Hodgson’s successor.

If reports are to be believed Allardyce was interviewed by the Football Association last week after returning home early from Austria.

The Black Cats contacted the Quakers ahead of the game to reserve seats for Allardyce his coaching staff as the Sunderland boss takes the opportunity to take a look at his young players.

The game marks a key moment in Darlington boss Martin Gray’s pre-season plans, as his former club provide a stern test for his side ahead of the Vanarama National League North campaign.
