Blyth Spartans manager Lee Clark has revealed he has enquired about Dan Maguire on “various different occasions”, however says York City want to keep their striker.

Maguire, a fans’ favourite at Croft Park, joined the full-time outfit in the summer and following the departure of Callum Roberts, many supporters had hoped for a ‘Nipa’ return.

And Clark admits he has approached The Minstermen over a potential move for Maguire, but the answer stands at a firm no.

Clark told “Over the last couple of months and over various different occasions, I’ve enquired about Dan Maguire’s availability, whether that’s on a permanent or loan deal.

“However, each time Steve (Watson) has been forceful in his message that he is not available. I’ve asked for a permanent and loan deal. I speak to him quite regularly so I asked the question again and it’s still the same answer.

“I’ve been backed by the board to pursue it in terms of the finance but they see him as big player for them in their quest for promotion and I fully respect Steve and York on that. Dan would have been the answer in terms of an individual getting the goals but York and Steve have declined my approaches.

“We have tried extremely hard not just to bring a Blyth legend back but someone who would find the bill. But you never say never, do you? I’ve been in the game too long.”
