Darlington have signed winger Jarrett Rivers and defender David Atkinson from Blyth Spartans.
Rivers, 25, has completed his contract at Blyth, and will join up with his former manager Alun Armstrong next week. After a season at Whitley Bay, he joined Blyth, who were then in the Evo-Stik League, and he was in the FA Cup spotlight when he scored the winner in their second-round tie against Hartlepool in December 2014.
His outstanding performances that season helped him win a move to Blackpool in the summer of 2015, but after a year at Bloomfield Road, he returned to Blyth.
For Atkinson, his first spell at Blyth saw them win promotion to the National League North, before he had a spell at IBV Vestmannaeyjar in Iceland, helping them win the Icelandic Cup and earn Europa League qualification.
Manager Alun Armstrong said; “If he hadn’t picked up a knee injury earlier in his career, then I think that he would have become a Premier League player. He can play in a variety of positions — right-back, centre-back and centre-midfield — and is reliable wherever he plays.
“He is tough, strong and quick — he is one of the best players that I’ve ever worked with.”
