Grimsby Borough took on Boston Town of the United Counties League Premier Division at the Bradley FDC in a game on Saturday to raise funds for The Pink Rose Suite at the Princess Diana of Wales Hospital in Grimsby.
The Pink Rose Suite is a specialist breast cancer care centre – one of the only ones in the country. This is a charity that is close to the Wilderness Boys with manager Dan Barrett’s brother James Curtis losing his wife to the disease last year.
The game took place in front of a crowd of 202 at Bradley and also saw a special late appearance of James Curtis playing for Borough. The club made over £600 on an online donation and more than doubled that at the game with all money from admission, raffle and programmers being donated to the cause.
Borough also wore a special new pink third shirt for the fixture that will also be used throughout the season. The shirt was kindly sponsored by Cherry Blossom Hair Salon who purchased the kit for Borough to show their support.
The game was played in great spirit and finished 1-1 with Will Peers scoring Borough’s goal. The referee also left his red and yellow cards at home and awarded pink cards for bad tackles, a £5 fine was taken from each booked player and put into the charity pot.
Grimsby Borough would like to thank everyone who donated and attended the game and Boston Town for supporting the fixture and the cause.
Donations are still being taken online and every penny counts :- you can donate by going here.
