Boston United boss Craig Elliott was left ruing his luck in the transfer market after watching one of his new signings leave the pitch on a stretcher at the weekend, Lincolnshire Live report.

Jordan Thewlis, signed only 24 hours earlier from Harrogate Town, suffered suspected ankle ligament damage just 21 minutes into his United debut at Chorley to effectively end his loan spell before it had even got going.

Elliott is hoping that the prognosis will not be too severe, but does not expect Thewlis to return to action before New Year’s Day when his loan period expires.

“I am devastated for him firstly and then the club and myself because I have been after him for so long,” said Elliott. “I felt that he was the final piece of the jigsaw because I have been after that type of player with a bit of pace and being a direct runner.

“I am disappointed for the lad that he has done his ligaments by the looks of it. I am gutted for the lad but I am sure he will come back bigger and stronger.”
